I post here daily about what we accomplished in class each day, including handouts and links available to students on my CANVAS site.
Honors classes: We began with a warm up about creating deeper commentary for the E sentences of our ACES paragraphs. Students then revised their chosen paragraph (from yesterday) to create advanced commentary sentences in the E section along with adding transition to the beginning of the E sentence and eliminating personal pronouns. Next, students worked in groups with others who read the same hero article for homework last night. The group had to create a creative summary for the article using one of several options. Finally, we went over the Honoring a Hero project and I gave them 2 assignments: 1) Write the ACE paragraph (outline first) defining a hero with evidence from the articles (due Tuesday, 9/6), and 2) Think about and choose someone you consider to be a hero and plan to interview that person before next Friday, 9/9.
Academic Class: Students participated in a warm up activity of connection my hero quotes to the articles they have read this week about heroes. Next, we discussed the sports and military hero articles for main idea/textual evidence. Then, we created an outline for the ACES paragraph about the definition of a hero that we will write in class next week. Finally, we continued learning vocabulary words in advance of our reading in the Epic of Gilgamesh.
