I post here daily about what we accomplished in class each day, including handouts and links available to students on my CANVAS site.
After 10 minutes of independent reading time, we practiced semicolon and colon rules by correcting the punctuation in 10 example sentences. Then, I gave students a list of comma rules that are organized around the mnemonic IF I SCAN. Their first job is to memorize the mnemonic and what each letter stands for. I'll quiz them on this much before the end of the week. We will also go through each comma rule and apply it to example sentences as well as create our own example sentences in the days ahead. After our grammar lesson, students had the rest of the class period to work on their slides for the Teach a Chapter presentations that begin tomorrow.
Homework: Finalize slides and prepare for presentation. Memorize the Comma Rule mnemonic for a quiz.
Reminder: Begin or continue reading Part III of Things Fall Apart so that you won't have to read over Spring Break!
