I post here daily about what we accomplished in class each day, including handouts and links available to students on my CANVAS site.
Honors classes: We started with practice sentences for parallelism, which I introduced to them yesterday. They took 5 sentences, one for each situation that calls for parallel structure, and revised it to create parallelism. Then, we walked through a process of analysis for poetry. I presented the process with a Power point presentation, available on Canvas, and gave the students a handout with copies of the slides to keep and use with future poems. We used the poem "First They Came" by Martin Niemoller. All poems in this unit are connected to the genre of Holocaust memoir. They will work in groups during class to analyze other poems as we continue reading the memoir. Homework: Finish Mandala project (due tomorrow) and continue reading/annotating/answering questions on Canvas for Chapters 1-3 in Night (due Friday).
Academic Classes: We also started with practice sentences for parallelism, correcting each sentence to create parallel structure. Then we moved into group presentations on the chapters of Part II in Things Fall Apart. Students had to take notes on a guided note handout for each of the chapters. Homework: Begin reading chapters 20-21. Questions/assignment for these chapters are on Canvas and are due on Friday.
