Daily Annoucements
I post here daily about what we accomplished in class each day, including handouts and links available to students on my CANVAS site.
Honors Classes: We started with a quick lesson on active voice and passive voice, including notes and practice sentences. Then, I explained the overview of timeline and reading assignments for our WWII Book club choices. They have until Jan. 3 to read the first 1/3 of the book, and until Jan. 5 to complete group discussion requirements/ACES writing. They have until Jan. 5 to complete the three Reader Response journal entries (in the packet), the character chart (also in packet) and a list of vocabulary words from the text with definitions (write on own paper and add to packet on Jan. 5). I gave them time in class to begin the first Reader Response Journal (finish tonight) and to meet with their groups to introduce the book to group members (who are reading a different text). Homework: Finish Reader Response journal for first chapter/first 20 pages.
Academic Class: We started with notes and practice exercises for Active/Passive Voice. Then, students worked individually or in groups to complete a chapter review assignment from our study of Night that also included the motifs we identified last week. After students completed and presented their chapter review, we developed theme statements for the memoir. I collected the Night journal assignments, which count as a major test grade. Homework: Work on outline (due by Wed. -- share Google Doc with me @ [email protected]).
