I post here daily about what we accomplished in class each day, including handouts and links available to students on my CANVAS site.
We started class with the vocabulary quiz. Students had 20 minutes to complete the quiz; those who finished early had the balance of that time to read independently. Next, we continued with summary statements as we did yesterday in class, then moved onto theme statements. Students should know and remember the "pattern" for creating each type of statement. We constructed a theme statement for the Epic of Gilgamesh and then compared that statement to a TED talk by former PCHS student Laura Rozo. Lastly, we looked at the study guide for tomorrow's portion of the Unit Test.
Homework: Prepare for tomorrow's text by: rereading key sections of the epic (use online textbook here -- login and password on Canvas under Announcements); memorize the 7 archetypes and their meanings; review steps on the Hero's Journey and textual evidence; review epic conventions and find textual evidence for each); review ACES format/requirements.
