Daily Annoucements
I post here daily about what we accomplished in class each day, including handouts and links available to students on my CANVAS site.
Honors classes: For warm-up students practiced with subject/verb agreement and then took notes on agreement rules (1-5). Next, we discussed the content of our hero nomination letter body paragraphs: two main ideas that connect to interview and personal definition of hero (written in ACES paragraph). Students then worked in groups to brainstorm and research appropriate, authentic audiences for this letter. Finally, I assigned the reading of the last section in the Epic of Gilgamesh, "The Return." Students need to read closely and answer reading questions on Canvas tonight for homework. Our unit test is coming up on Monday, 9/19, so we will review the epic and related materials tomorrow in class. Homework: Finish reading "The Return" and answer questions on Canvas.
Academic classes: For warm-up students practiced with subject/verb agreement and then took notes on agreement rules (1-5). Next, we read "The Return" together, noting the steps in the Hero's Journey/writing evidence, and answering discussion questions. We also practiced writing theme/summary statements for the different parts of the epic and Gilgamesh's overall journey. We also watched the video of former PCHS student Laura Rozo and discussed how her message contained similar themes to that of Gilgamesh. Our unit test is coming up on Monday, 9/19, so we will review the epic and related materials tomorrow in class.
