I post here daily about what we accomplished in class each day, including handouts and links available to students on my CANVAS site.
After 10 minutes of reading time at the beginning of class, we moved to the Media Center to work on revising the rough draft of the hero nomination letter. First, each student was to go through each point on the Writer's Checklist to proofread and revise his/her own letter. Then, each student was to go to the Shared With Me section of Google Drive to find a classmate's letter (these were shared on Monday). Using the Comments feature in Google Docs, the student was to evaluate each paragraph of the classmate's letter using the rubric (not the same as Writer's Checklist) by praising the writer's accomplishments of the criteria for each paragraph and making suggestions for helping the writer to move up to the "Expert" level where needed. Finally, students each returned to his/her own letter to read the peer comments and make revisions where needed.
Homework: Continue to revise letter based on checklist and rubric. You have between now and Sunday to share the Google Doc with me (firstname.lastname@example.org) for my feedback. On Monday, you must have uploaded the letter to Turnitin.com, AND printed the letter and stapled it to the outline and rubric/checklist for submission in class.
