I post here daily about what we accomplished in class each day, including handouts and links available to students on my CANVAS site.
Today we started class by learning about a particular paragraph style called ACES (answer, cite, explain, summarize). Working in groups, students drafted an ACES paragraph in response to a question about the "Why Study Global Literature?" article read last night. Next, we listened to the song "Holding Out for a Hero" and brainstormed some ideas about the look, characteristics, and examples of heroes. Finally, I gave everyone a packet of 3 articles about the nature of heroes/heroism. Tonight's assignment is to read the first two articles, annotating as they read, and to summarize each article on the graphic organizer. Articles and graphic organizer are available as an assignment in Canvas. The brainstorming handout is available in the Files section of Canvas, and the explanation of the ACES paragraph is in their copy of the Writer's Reference guide, pages 2-3.
