Daily Annoucements
I post here daily about what we accomplished in class each day, including handouts and links available to students on my CANVAS site.
We had lots of different things going on in class today! After vocabulary review (1st and 3rd only), we discussed compound sentence construction and punctuation. All students should now be able to name and demonstrate the three correct methods for creating and punctuating a compound sentence. We will discuss the three INCORRECT methods (comma splice, fused sentence, and run-on sentence) tomorrow and practice finding and correcting those. Next, I reviewed the general idea of a Socratic seminar and how we will implement it in class on Monday/Tuesday next week. Students already know their discussion topics for the seminar, and now they should understand how a seminar grade is calculated. Lastly, we went over the ACES assignment for this week and got started identifying examples of dramatic irony from the tracking evidence charts and/or textbook. I also explained how student will also summarize the irony of the play by writing a parody of Alanis Morrisette's "Ironic" song. Homework: Study for vocab. quiz on Thursday. Coming up: Quiz on Oedipus Rex and Greek Drama on Friday. Socratic Seminar on Monday/Tuesday
