Daily Annoucements
I post here daily about what we accomplished in class each day, including handouts and links available to students on my CANVAS site.
English II Honors:
We started class by previewing three additional articles about modern concepts of heroism. Students must choose two of the three to read/annotate/summarize for our current assignment. Next, each group used a different summary technique to express their summary of "What Makes a Hero?" by Phillip Zimbardo. We then discussed pros and cons for each summary technique so that students can choose one of them to apply to the new articles they are reading. Next, I introduced students to the Hero's Journey Cycle, an outline of a story structure that typically describes literature about heroes. We will compare our first literary text, The Epic of Gilgamesh, to this structure when as we read it this week. They took notes on the cyclical journey from a video and a TED Radio talk. Homework: Read/annotate/summarize on the graphic organizer for the second hero article (one you chose in class today).
