I post here daily about what we accomplished in class each day, including handouts and links available to students on my CANVAS site.
1st and 3rd Period classes: We started with 10 minutes of independent reading, followed by a review of comma splices, fused sentences, and fragment corrections. We have a quiz tomorrow on these concepts and others from the Sentence Types unit. Students can access a study guide on Canvas with terms to know as well as links to sites where they can answer practice questions. Next, we discussed Bloom's Taxonomy of thinking skills and how we can apply those to the current journal writing assignment. Students were assigned a partner, shared their journal in Google Docs with the partner, and evaluated their partner's journal entries for existing levels of HOTS (higher order thinking = stages above recall and understanding). They also made suggestions in their partner's journal, as needed, on how to include additional higher order thinking sentences using our handout with the skills paired with questions.
4th Period: Today these students took the midterm benchmark assessment.
Homework (all classes): Read chapters 9-10 in TFA, write journals for chapters 7-8. Submit "best ACES" paragraph to Turnitin.com by 7:25 am tomorrow.
