I post here daily about what we accomplished in class each day, including handouts and links available to students on my CANVAS site.
Slightly different agendas across my classes today, since Period 3 needed to finish Part II chapter presentations. Periods 1 and 4 had an extended reading session to make up for no reading yesterday and to give some students a chance to start/continue/finish reading Part III of Things Fall Apart. After reading or presentations, all classes got started on one of my favorite assignments: Examining a conversation between Mr. Brown (missionary) and Akunna (Igbo native) about their respective religions. We do this by reading the conversation first; then, I assign students one character's perspective and have them create a poem using words from the conversation in Blackout Poetry fashion. Our goal for today was to complete steps 1-5 to create the poem; on Monday 4/17 they will work on creating the blacked out parts/illustration. Both the text pages of the conversation and the instructions for creating the poem are on our Canvas page here: wcpss.instructure.com/courses/137654.
