Daily Annoucements
I post here daily about what we accomplished in class each day, including handouts and links available to students on my CANVAS site.
Feb. 2, 2018 Semester 2, Day 7 We started class with our vocabulary quiz, followed by independent reading. Those who finished the quiz quickly had as much as 20-25 minutes of reading time today -- giving them an hour of reading time this week! After that, we discussed the final section of The Epic of Gilgamesh by summarizing the text and deciphering the meaning by considering the symbolic archetypes and the progression through the steps in the hero's journey. Students added notes to their archetypes document and to their hero's journey handout. Finally, we began to think about the theme of the epic. In the final minutes of class, I asked each table group to come up with a theme using a the following theme statement format: The Epic of Gilgamesh is about (topic/plot) and reveals (wisdom, universal truth). Homework: Finish archetype notes in the Google Doc if needed (I will check these for completion over the weekend). Read the article "Why Everyone Should Read Harry Potter" and annotate using annotation strategies from the Harvard guide: Six Reading Habits to Develop (see the "Annotate" section in the article).
